What is recruitment?
Recruitment is the process of identifying, evaluating, and securing talent to meet business needs. Companies typically use internal recruitment, external recruitment, or a combination of both.
Internal recruitment is when a recruiter works for one company as a resource to internal teams. An internal recruiter will typically have one opportunity for you at the company they work for at any given time (large companies may have more than one available).
They will typically be on the talent acquisition, people, or human resources team of an employer. They may also be on an operations team of a start-up. This will reflect in their title.
External recruitment is when a recruiter works as an external partner to multiple companies. An external recruiter may have more than one opportunity to present to you at different companies.
There are many different types of external recruiters, some recruiters are functional specific like Melo Associates, some may be industry-specific (e.g., HealthTech, Manufacturing, Retail), and some may focus on executive roles only. Titles typically include consultant, partner, or niche focus (function, industry). External recruiters work as part of a recruitment firm or may be individual freelancers.
What is recruitment?
Recruitment is the process of identifying, evaluating, and securing talent to meet business needs. In general, companies use internal recruitment, external recruitment, or a combination of both. Understanding the difference is, therefore, one of the most useful recruitment resources you can have when navigating hiring decisions.
Internal recruitment refers to a recruiter who works directly for one company as an in-house resource. Typically, an internal recruiter has one opportunity available at the company they represent at any given time, though larger organizations may have more. You will usually find internal recruiters on talent acquisition, people, or human resources teams, and sometimes on the operations team of a startup. Their title will typically reflect this.
External recruitment, on the other hand, refers to a recruiter who works as an external partner to multiple companies. As a result, an external recruiter may present you with opportunities at different organizations simultaneously. External recruiters vary widely in focus: some, like Melo Associates, are function-specific; others are industry-specific (for example, HealthTech, Manufacturing, or Retail); and some focus exclusively on executive roles. Titles typically include consultant, partner, or a niche descriptor based on function or industry. External recruiters work either as part of a recruitment firm or independently as freelancers.

What is Internal Mobility, and why does it matter?
Internal mobility is an internal hiring strategy that helps companies fill critical roles by identifying and moving existing employees into new or expanded positions. It is, in fact, one of the most underutilized recruitment resources available to growing companies and one of the most effective.
Our Employee Mobility Program helps companies retain high-performing talent, reduce external hiring costs, and protect revenue. Internal hires ramp faster, stay longer, and preserve institutional knowledge. As a result, mobility becomes a critical lever for workforce continuity and growth. Our program helps you build and maintain a centralized internal talent system, gain insights to drive smarter decisions, match internal talent to the right roles, and align stakeholders to uncover opportunities. In addition, we provide objective guidance to reduce bias and accelerate internal decision-making.
